Most Happy Fella, The

This unique musical play, with book, music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, is like an abundant Italian meal, with generous portions of melody, sentiment, humor, and pathos. Older, unattractive, but warm-hearted wine-grower Tony Esposito anonymously woos a waitress he calls Rosabella, with unexpected results. The rich score ranges from musical comedy tunes like “Standing on the Corner,” “Joey, Joey, Joey,” and “Big D,” to operatically flavored numbers like “My Heart Is So Full of You” and “How Beautiful the Days.” This is an highly rewarding show for a company with a large ensemble of fine singers, and there are also ample opportunities for dancers and character actors, as well.
