Hunchback of Notre Dame, The

The distinctive voice of novelist Victor Hugo, so clearly heard in Les Misérables, is also the driving force behind this emotionally rich musical drama. The story of Quasimodo, the sweet- natured but physically challenged bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, has often been adapted for stage and screen, but this compelling version hews closer to the original novel than most, and is deeply enriched by the powerful musical score by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The superb cast album, with its excellent leading actors, fine ensemble, and sonorous church choir, inspired the 2017 MTWichita production, which featured a cast of 80, including several teens and children.
