Chicago

Bob Fosse’s cynical vaudeville entertainment casts a knowing eye on the foibles of the American justice system, revisiting two real-life crimes that took place in Chicago in 1925. Kander and Ebb’s zesty score contains “All That Jazz,” “Razzle Dazzle,” and “All I Care About Is Love,” among a dozen genuine toe-tappers. The approach taken by MTWichita in 2019 is informed by the 1996 Broadway revival, which is now the longest running American musical on Broadway.

Costumes

Costumes for Chicago by Abby Stroot follow the basic template of the Broadway revival, with slinky black outfits for all six leading characters (Roxie, Velma, Billy, Mama Morton, Amos, and cross-dressing Mary Sunshine), and for an ensemble of trim dancers (9 men, 8 women). Each character has one basic outfit, with Roxie and Velma changing into separate outfits for the finale.
