XANADU features a unit set designed by Robert A. Kovach with skatable platforming, a variety of 5-screen projections, and two audience boxes, each one seating 8 observers. Additional pieces include a large scrim of the nine Muses, a hard flying XANADU sign, trick phone booth (for changing Sonny’s shoes into skates), furniture for Mt. Olympus and earthbound scenes, giant 32″ Mirror Disco Ball and sixteen small ones, Pegasus and ladder. Costumes (by Tiia Torchia) were designed for a cast of 38, including 9 muses, Sonny and Danny, assorted California inhabitants, mythological creatures in Mt. Olympus (Centaur, Cyclops, Medusa, Hermes, Satyr), and flashy disco wear for entire cast. More details to follow. Columns and facades NOT self supporting (renting venue must still have fly system). Estimated prices are as follows: Full package, $13,000; sets and props only, $10,000; costumes only, $5,000. Entire show ships in 1-53′ trailer and is High School-friendly.
